Between 1960 and 1980, Jean Vanloo made Mouscron, a small town with 60,000 inhabitants, the Belgian capital of rock, pop and disco! Jimi Hendrix, the Kinks, Gene Vincent, Sunlight and even Madonna - they all crossed his path.
Jean Vanloo, a former lifeguard, by no means destined for a career in music, became a successful producer with the disco track "Born to be Alive" (more than 27 million copies sold throughout the world!) With no experience in this field but a sharp ear, incredible nerve and boundless cheek, he uncovered the sounds and artists that would mark an entire era.
Through musical encounters with his friends and family, this film reveals a fascinating and mysterious man. From Belgium to London, Paris and New York, King of Clubs is a dip into the world of rock and pop from the 60s to the 80s, haunted by the memory and figure of Jean Vanloo, illustrating a bygone era.
