This 2-part documentary traces Rameauís life: his struggles, his successes and the originality of his style and writing, which made him one of the greatest composers in the history of French music.
Through extracts from a performance of one of his major works, ďLES SURPRISES DE LíAMOURĒ, and interviews with Sťbastien díHťrin, conductor and Rameau specialist and Eric Desnoues, conductor and director of the Baroque Music Festival in Lyon, we reveal the principals and particularities of Rameauís compositions.
Little is known about Rameauís life, and even less about the forty years before he moved permanently to Paris in 1722. A secretive character, his early years were a mystery even to his wife.
Born in Dijon, his travels around France and to Italy meant that it was quite some time before the public were able to appreciate his creative talents.

The main themes:
- Rameauís musical techniques
- A life marked by extensive travelling and the late discovery of his talents.
- Rameauís creative principals, his concept and vision of performance
- An analysis of Rameauís works by a music critic
- An analysis of Rameauís recitatives through specific examples
- The melodic line in Rameauís works
- Dramatic expression in Rameauís works
- Rameau and his misunderstood language
- A lynching by the great minds of The Enlightenment
- His rediscovery in the 20th century
