April 1968. While the student revolt was rumbling on, posters were popping up all over Paris for a movie based on a book by Boris Vian, l’Ecume des jours (Froth on the Daydream).

Over the preceding years, the novel had become a "best seller", adored by young people who had finally discovered an author who spoke a language they understood.

Boris Vian, who died in 1959 at the age of 39, created a scandal under the pseudonym Vernon Sullivan; he created one of the most famous jazz haunts of the 50s and was the image of the outcast artist, shunned by his peers, idolised by his friends.

But Boris Vian is more complex than his legend. His work reflects an ongoing struggle between his different personalities, his opposing desires and unspoken dreams... a surprising and explosive mix that makes him a deeply human and vibrant character.
