    Synopsis

The only film about Piaf including a large part of totally unique, private and unpublished archive footage !

The whole of France followed her sensational love affairs, misfortunes, health problems and comebacks like a soap opera… Her refrains were heard all over the world. She had just celebrated her 48th birthday. But on Friday, 11th October 1963, everything stopped... France was plunged into mourning. Despite the fact that she was denied a Mass, L’Osservatore Romano, the organ of the Vatican, declaring her “an icon of false happiness, who lived a public life in a state of sin”, France lamented her passing. Her funeral at Père-Lachaise on the 14th of October caused a riot. Forty thousand people came to honour their idol.
Using exceptional documents, photos, soundtracks and previously unseen footage, this film brings one of the most extraordinary figures of the 20th century back to life and presents Edith Piaf in a totally new light, painting a sensitive and personal portrait of a woman whose legendary status grows with the passing years. The tabloid press clichés are left far behind to reveal a much more complex Piaf.
Edith Piaf died 50 years ago, but she moves us still. Timeless and universal, today her songs are sung by young singers and great international stars alike. Piaf made her mark on the century like no one else.
