The Marriage of Figaro, Diary of a Creation 52'  - 2013  - DUBLIN Films
    Synopsis

In June 2012, a new version of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro opened at the Opéra de Bordeaux, directed by Laurent Laffargue. The filmmakers followed the director and his team throughout the nine months it took to produce the opera. From the first preparatory meetings to the night of the dress rehearsal, their camera moved between the scenic workshop and the costume department, the dressing rooms and the backstage area, the stage of the Grand-Théâtre and the rehearsal rooms; it followed the cast and crew at work, lingering on a gesture or a fabric, capturing the magical moment when an idea appears from nowhere and revealing the truth behind directing actors...
How do Laurent Laffargue’s artistic instincts, and sometimes his convictions, converge with the skills and talents of his numerous collaborators (designers, costumiers, singers, technicians...)? In what way do private and common goals combine in any collective artistic endeavour in order to produce a contemporary interpretation?
This documentary shows the creative process at work and takes the viewer on an adventure in which form, meaning and making are closely linked and where different nationalities, techniques and talents are brought together around music.
