Rhinestones and glitter for a very hot show that transforms burlesque striptease into a weapon of mass seduction.
These ladies raise the temperature according to a tried and tested recipe: a good dose of glamour flavoured with humour, (sexy without taking themselves seriously), a dash of well-placed vulgarity and a hint of poetry that plunges into the surreal thanks to the work of video artist Pierrick Sorin. All sprinkled with a lively variety of music.
When it comes to...

Males devoured after copulation, wild orgies, fierce fights, dances, seductions, impulses, inexplicable acrobatics, deadly enigmas, perversions, pregnant males, newborns eaten alive... Nature seems to have confused and covered its myriad tracks, as if...

AUGUSTO // 62' - 2018

A performer who pushes physical boundaries as much as he explores virtual spaces, in this show the Italian Alessandro Sciarroni examines the figure of the Auguste clown, and more broadly, the mechanisms of laughter.

AUGUSTO is an in-depth exploration of the human voice and laughter. The piece establishes a very strong physical connection between performers and spectators. Together, they tend towards a euphoric, almost trance-like state, during an obsessive quest punctuated by...

27 PERSPECTIVES // 52' - 2018

Maud Le Pladec turns Schubert's Unfinished Symphony into a ghost score.

Dance, music and text have always been closely linked for Maud Le Pladec.
In the company of composer Pete Harden, she delves into another artistic...

(S)ACRE // 62' - 2018

In contrast to the vision of the Elect sacrificed by the old sages in the original ballet, a group of nine heroines resist the powers of oppression. David Drouard places them in an abandoned theatre, partly covered by vegetation.
With this struggle by women to stay alive, echoing...

WIEBO (BOWIE/DECOUFLÉ) // 88' - 2015

All the facets of this "man who fell to earth" are shining through an absolutely stunning and transgender show. It is as much a concert as it is a performance, an official ceremony as much as a clandestine cabaret, this great glam rock celebration runs through the work of Bowie in fifteen songs.

Philippe Decouflé has chosen the singular world of three singers to revisit Bowie’s myth aspects: folk with Sophie Hunger, post-punk rock with Jehnny Beth (Savages) and minimalist with...

Ballet
A BAS BRUIT (INSIDIOUSLY) // 66' - 2014

Insidiously. This is the way certain epidemics, ideas challenging the established order and nascent feelings are transmitted. Insidiously, like the story of our lives, in which the personal joins the great movements of history. Poised between dance and circus, the show is a kaleidoscopic collection of portraits capturing fractions of an era.
A human-sized hamster wheel is recycled in order to do the rounds of our inner world: a command to race, but also an anti-gravitational experiment....

Dedicated to Tchaikovsky’s platonic muse (and wealthy patroness) Nadezhda von Meck, the Fourth Symphony conceals a hidden programme, which the composer explained in a letter to his friend. The main idea of the work, the kernel of the whole score, appears at the opening: "Fatum, that fatal power which prevents one from attaining the goal of happiness, which jealously ensures that peace and happiness shall not be complete and unclouded (...) unwaveringly, constantly poisoning the soul."

Paul Agnew’s monumental project to perform all eight books of Monteverdi’s madrigals in just four years seems as ambitious as performing the complete works of Bach! A bold challenge, like the work itself. Contained within these eight Books are the foundations of modern music, from the end of the Renaissance madrigal born of Franco-Flemish art, to court ballets (the Ballo Delle Ingrate) and operatic scenes ("The Combat of Tancredi and Clorinda"). For Monteverdi, this means half a century of...

CHOSTAKOVITCH, CELLO CONCERTO N°1 IN E FLAT MAJOR, OP. 107 // 28' - 2014

Composed in a difficult period of Chostakovich's life who then suffers from poliomyelitis, this concerto is dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich. The musical motif DSCH occurs clearly in this work. In the final Chostakovich used Stalin’s favorite Russian melody, “Suliko”, but deforming it in an ironic gloomy way to show that even long time after the death of Stalin, Chostakovich had not forgotten the persecutions from whom he was the victim.

BRAHMS: SYMPHONY N°3 IN F-MAJOR OP. 90 // 35' - 2014

Composed in 1883 in Wiesbaden, Symphony No.3 aroused a great deal of enthusiasm, especially from Hans Richter, who nicknamed it the Eroica. The work was inspired by Schumann, and angered Wagner fans when it was played for the first time. Scored for strings, woodwind, brass and percussion, the symphony consists of four movements.

ARNOLD SCHÖNBERG, CHAMBER SYMPHONY N°2, OP. 38 // 23' - 2014

The chamber symphony op.38 # 2 is an orchestral work written in 1939. Schönberg began its composing shortly after the first symphony, but finished it 33 years later. This partition is the witness of a musical turnaround in the late 30’s: the composer have successively explored tonal music and twelve-tone technique.

Schoenberg composed unstable, irresolvable melodies (like Wagner). He also hated sequences and any form of textual "predictability". He was looking for perpetually...

BRAHMS: SYMPHONY N ° 1 IN C MINOR, OP.68 // 46' - 2014

Johannes Brahms composed his first symphony late in life, beginning it in 1862 and completing in 1876. Legend has it that his decision to tackle the genre was prompted by his finding a pen on Ludwig van Beethoven’s tomb in 1862. It represented the return to the great classical symphony, while fashion was for "Programme music" of the late Romantics and the last operas of Richard Wagner.

HENRI DUTILLEUX, MYSTÈRE DE L'INSTANT // 24' - 2014

Dutilleux has proposed to seize the moment to organize musical time differently.
The word "mystery" should be understood in its broadest sense, without excluding its spiritual resonance. As sometimes said Henri Dutilleux, the act of writing music is similar to a ceremony, "with its mystery and magic." How one idea rather than another comes up to be an evidence during the creation-making?

Composed between 1971 and 1977, Henri Dutilleux wrote this string quartet in memory of the American art-lover Ernest Sussman. It is comprised of seven sections, first created in isolation and then linked by "parentheses". This unique quartet illustrates the concept of memory through the principle of variation and prefiguration and, whilst being entirely of its own time, challenges composition in the tradition of the Viennese school.

Passionate about freedom and sharing and eschewing conservatism, Les Dissonances brings the freshness back to Mozart’s five violin concertos. Led by David Grimal's Stradivarius, the twenty-six-piece ensemble reveals the luminosity and virtuosity of these works.
Composed in his youth, the violin concertos are Mozart’s first attempts at this musical form. Although concertos 1 and 2 are still inspired by the “gallant” style, those that follow show greater complexity and mastery.

To this question, several hypotheses have been advanced, but the most credible one remains the discovery by Schubert of his syphilis.

BRAHMS: STRING SEXTET NO.1 IN B-FLAT MAJOR, OP. 18 // 38' - 2013

This sextet for two violins, two violas and two cellos was completed in 1860 in Ham. Nicknamed the "Spring Sextet”, the first two movements have a pastoral air. This work has to be played with exceptional commitment to reveal its true nature, which is exactly what Les Dissonances do here. It is driven by a simplicity, energy and nobility that reflect Brahms’ tormented soul at that time. Incidentally, Louis Malle used the sextet in his film "The Lovers".

BEETHOVEN, SYMPHONY NO. 1 IN C MAJOR, OP. 21 // 27' - 2010

Although still in the style of Mozart and Haydn, the audacious form and orchestration of Beethoven's First Symphony marks a turning point from the classical technique.
The third movement, classical manner "menuetto", is close to a Romantic scherzo: the tempo is much faster than a traditional menuet. The symphony was initially criticized for heavy musical score, particularly in the winds, but was acclaimed by audiences and quickly became one of Beethoven’s most popular works.

BLACK LIPS AT THE GAITÉ LYRIQUE // 52' - 2017

The Black Lips are no more than 35 years old but can already boast a career spanning more than 15 years. Regarded a “subculture danger”, the founders of the group, Cole Alexander and Jared Swilley, were kicked out of school in the post-Columbine period and took to the roads of America, where they created what they called "flower-punk", a hippie punk without rules or limitations serving both as a life mantra and a live slogan.

THE NATIONAL AT THE CORK OPERA HOUSE // 76' - 2017

It’s been a long time since these five young Americans, signed to a small, pioneering French label, were playing endless gigs in small venues. The path to success has been well marked and it’s the fruit of hard work and patience. Two noteworthy first albums, a third (Alligator) which earned them...

SHAME (SOIRÉE DE POCHE) // 32' - 2017

We don’t know much about them, except that they embody the new British Indie rock scene. With their name setting the tone and their clean-cut appearance, on paper the London quintet seems like a contradiction.

Live, however, there’s no doubt: these young men (their average age is under 20) are there to do battle with their audience who, like them, is overflowing with energy. The result is a spectacular show, in which the five band members fling off their beautiful tweed jackets,...

After more than ten years’ absence, the American veterans Grandaddy are back with Last Place, the successor to Just Like the Fambly Cat, released in 2006 and in line with the dreamy and idealistic pop-rock to which the group was a precursor.

The 6 musicians perform their own adaptations of the Métamorphoses Nocturnes composed by Ligeti in the mid-1950s while discreetly paying homage to Béla Bartók, whose crepuscular climate and variation technique are easily recognizable.
They then come together for a piece composed by Roberto Negro, who draws freely on Ligeti's own techniques, inspired as much by fiendish mechanics and...

THE COMMUNE OF PARIS AND JAZZ // 80' - 2017

The Commune of Paris (1871) was all about Resistance and Revolution, just like Jazz.
Jazz and the Commune, a great political, tragic and lyrical adventure, with its characters and heroes, are brought together here in the form of a hybrid, mixed-race opera, in which slam holds a dialogue with song or a drum solo.
The idea is to put text and music on an equal footing; that’s to say, the history and the way of telling it.

ROYAL SOUTHERN BROTHERHOOD // 87' - 2016

“Amplified soul for a new generation”... It may sound pretentious, but the Royal Southern Brotherhood lives up to its claim with a tribal beat, a heady groove that hits the mark and a certain laid-back attitude characteristic of the humidity of the American Deep South. A meeting of the swaying rhythms of New Orleans and what is commonly known as Southern rock...
