The Canal des Étangs was built in 1870 to drain the marshy lands of the Médoc and establish the great Landes forest. In autumn and winter, birds such as geese, ducks, woodcock and wood sandpipers use its course as a migratory route. Navigating this canal, from Carcans Lake to the Arcachon Basin, we meet the local hunters, whose techniques have gradually become part of the cultural landscape of this corner of Gascony.
