"Lyon. January 2018. I open a black hard-cardboard box that belonged to my

grandfather, who was a printer in Lyon during the last war. In amongst a mass of documents, I find a perfectly preserved grey file, with this note written in pencil:

“Documents belonging to Mr. Morgenstern, deposited in Lyon in 1941 or 1942.

To be returned to Mr. Morgenstern if requested.”

The writing was my grandfather’s. Inside it, I found a hundred authentic documents (letters, notes, private and administrative letters, medical certificates, photos, passports, residence permits, house arrest papers...) belonging to a man named Léopold Morgenstern, his wife, his daughter and his son-in-law. I plunged myself into the history of this hounded family, its constant struggles, its perseverance.

To return the box? I wanted to know more. I began my research...

This play allows us to explore a bygone time, lost in the indiscernible vagueness of historical conflicts. The audience follows the protagonists' discoveries on stage and experiences the reconstruction of memory for themselves.
