In the 19th century, Brittany was a region in ruins that the French state wanted to integrate into the Republic at all costs in order to make France a modern nation. The First World War, which claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Bretons, completed the task of assimilating Brittany into the Republic.

In the period between the wars, the region felt the effects of the global economic crises and the countryside sank into poverty. It wasn’t until the 1950s and 1960s that the region, destroyed by war and the assimilation policy, recovered, rebuilt its culture and became a unique centre of tourist and economic attraction in France.

Brittany’s history is one of headwinds and successive battles against poverty and subjugation, but also stunning economic and cultural successes. The film tells the fascinating tale of this territory, which has defended its traditions to become the region of choice for the French, who are falling for it’s beauty and the strength of its culture in ever increasing numbers.
