SISTERS IN THE SHADOWS
52' - 2021 - SAISON CINQ
Synopsis
The 19th and 20th centuries were periods of deadly wars, natural disasters, famines and diseases in China. While the Jesuits regarded these times and issues through the eyes of the spirit, the female congregations regarded them through the eyes of the heart.
These female religious orders brought, often at great risk to their lives, humanitarian and psychological aid to the sick, to the poor, to abandoned children and to refugees. Acting as unconditional humanists, these kingpins were as discreet as they were courageous.
The story of these nuns in China is little known to the general public. This film reveals the true value of the work of these women in the tumult of history.
