Synopsis
Born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, singer Sandra Mandengué performs under the stage name Mounam, meaning “the child” in Douala. Her voice, blending blues, gospel, and soul, has taken her to share the stage with Liz McComb, Pink Martini, Popa Chubby, Lady Gaga, and Toots & The Maytals, at Glastonbury, Porto’s South West Festival, and Jazz à Vienne.
Her explosive presence fuses Afro-Cameroonian groove with Mississippi blues feeling. Accompanied by pianist Paul Lamarca and double bassist France Duclairoir, Sandra “Mounam” interprets Nina Simone’s music, bringing her own soul to the timeless repertoire.
