Only the fertile brains of Jarvis Cocker, former leader of the legendary band Pulp and icon of Britpop, and Chilly Gonzales, pianist and producer of genius, could have dreamed up such a crazy project.
Born from a long stay by the British musician at Chateau Marmont, the prestigious hotel in Los Angeles long favoured by Hollywood’s rich and famous, "Room 29" is a hybrid oddity, somewhere between music, dance, theatre and projections, which premiered in France at the Arte Concert Festival.
Jarvis Cocker appears as a dandy MC with Chilly Gonzales at the piano, surrounded by clips from cult movies, a dancer and the Kaiser Quartett, a string ensemble that has already accompanied the Canadian on stage. But above all we learn the incredible story of a place synonymous with the golden age of Hollywood, between soaring pop and commentaries delivered with the subtle irony that Cocker masters to perfection.
