Erwan Simon, Emiliano Cataldi, Sam Bleakley and John Callahan are four professionals from the surf industry and form the collective Surf Explore.
But they are also and above all adventurers. Each year, they travel to the ends of the earth in search of pristine waves and undiscovered surfing spots.
This is the first episode of a unique documentary series immersing us in the heart of today’s expeditions. An ode to adventure in remote and hostile lands and the promise of encountering new people and cultures.
1st episode MADAGASCAR :
After a great deal of research, the Surf Explore team has found a new area that seems favourable to waves. On the west coast of Madagascar, along the Mozambique Channel, their attention has been caught by an archipelago of 9 almost virgin islands, the Barren Islands, about which there is very little information. We only know that they are temporarily occupied by the "Vezos", one of the last nomadic tribes. Geographically, the islands are ideally placed to take advantage of the swell, which is rare in the Mozambique Channel; but for now, the presence of quality surfing spots in this part of the world is only a hypothesis. Surf Explore have only a few days in which to prove their existence in an area covering several hundred square miles.
To reach this archipelago, they will have to cross the "Madagascan Wild West”, taking to the dangerous roads upon which convoys are regularly attacked by bandits, known as "daalos".
