TO BLO DAYI, journey to the roots of Capoeira
52' - 2013 - JOUR J Productions
Synopsis
The roots of Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, can be traced back to the fighting techniques and dances brought to Brazil by African slaves.
A group of French and Brazilian capoeiristas decide to go to the Capoeira Rencontres Internationales in Benin, the birthplace of a “game” synonymous to its practitioners with resistance, emancipation and memory.
From Cotonou to Abomey, taking in Porto-Novo and Ouidah, this cultural and initiatory journey traces the painful history of slavery and shows the artistic vitality of the African continent, which has had such an influence on Brazilian music and dance.
