Synopsis
The story of Bakhita, a Sudanese slave who took holy orders in Italy at the end of the 19th century and was canonised by Pope John Paul II in 2000.
In Sudan at the end of the 19th century, Bakhita, ‘the lucky one’ in Arabic, was sold to a slave trader by slave traders. The documentary alternates the words of her biographer Véronique Olmi with archive footage of African villages, convents where Bakhita lived and drawings reconstructing her story. Actor Bibata ROAMBA plays Bakhita and recites extracts from the ‘Diary’ on camera.
