Composed in a difficult period of Chostakovich's life who then suffers from poliomyelitis, this concerto is dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich. The musical motif DSCH occurs clearly in this work. In the final Chostakovich used Stalin’s favorite Russian melody, “Suliko”, but deforming it in an ironic gloomy way to show that even long time after the death of Stalin, Chostakovich had not forgotten the persecutions from whom he was the victim.
DAVID GRIMAL & LES DISSONANCES
The Dissonances, homage to the famous quartet of Mozart, is a collective of artists created by violinist David Grimal. The musical ensemble without conductor, has an absolute liberty of programming choices. This independence offers musicians the opportunity to meet a new audience sometimes intimidated by the so-called classical music and to bring the public a new vision of the major repertoire.
