Conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Ensemble Matheus fills Lyon's Chapelle de la Trinité with the music of Mozart. A concert dominated by a remarkable interpretation of the superb Great Mass in C.
A dazzling affirmation of Mozart's freedom and genius, the Great Mass in C minor was, at its premiere, condemned for its lyricism and lushness, judged to be too close to opera. Nourished by the influences of Bach and Handel, this unfinished masterpiece is nonetheless a pinnacle of the master's sacred music.
In the sumptuous setting of Lyon's Chapelle de la Trinité, performed with audacity by Ensemble Matheus under the baton of Jean-Christophe Spinosi, the Great Mass in C unfolds its full choral and spiritual scope. The concert continues with Symphony No. 41 "Jupiter", Mozart's last composition, imbued with a gentle serenity.
Sopranos Nina Maestracci and Chiara Skerath, tenor Krystian Adam, bass Luigi De Donato and the Vox 21 Choir lend their voices to this exceptional program.
