It is a pilgrimage to medieval Spain that Jordi Savall, the singers of La Capella Reial de Catalunya and the musicians of Hespèrion XXI offer us.In the Middle Ages, the Abbey of Montserrat was, along with Santiago de Compostela, one of the major places of pilgrimage on the Iberian Peninsula. Within its walls is preserved the Llibre Vermell, a precious manuscript compiling a vast musical repertoire intended for pilgrims: songs in Latin and Catalan, dances, etc. Several singers from La Capella Reial de Catalunya participate in this sublime concert: sopranos Elionor Martínez and Anaïs Oliveras, mezzosoprano Eulàlia Fantova, tenor tenors Víctor Sordo and Lluís Vilamajó and baritone Javier Jiménez-Cuevas. Alongside them, we find Pierre Hamon on flute, Efrén López on medieval lute and hurdy-gurdy and Andrew Lawrence-King on harp and psaltery, all three being members of the Hespèrion XXI ensemble.
