Following the immense success of Alain Corneau's film Tous les matins du monde (which won a César for Best Soundtrack in 1992, one of eight Césars the film received), based on Pascal Quignard's book of the same title, and the triumphant reception the public gave to the music of Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe, his pupil Marin Marais and François Couperin, Jordi Savall - surrounded by some of the musicians who took part in recording the film's music - wants to celebrate this 31st anniversary. He pays tribute to Alain Corneau and Pascal Quignard, as well as to all those great musicians of the Great Century whom the film so effectively helped to make better known: Lully, the superintendent of the Sun King's music, forged the taste of an entire century, as did François Couperin, and of course the two protagonists Sainte-Colombe le père - with his concerts for two equal viols - and Marin Marais, thanks to his marvelous viol pieces, sometimes nostalgic or dreamy, sometimes luminous and virtuoso, and which, in the hand of Jordi Savall, gave the film all its depth. "I remember my first meeting with Jordi in 1990," writes Pascal Quignard, "he had read the novel: he was as concentrated as I imagined Sainte-Colombe... they were recording in the dead of night. It was cold. I was sleeping on a bench in the chapel (Saint-Lambert-des-Bois)... I've only kept one record of 1991. It's an old 17th-century score on which Jordi hand-copied Sainte-Colombe's piece Les Pleurs... and at the bottom of which he wrote: "For Pascal in memory of a dream…". ams sometimes spread beyond the night that shelters them ".
