Formed in the late 1980s in Dublin, Kíla are one of the most innovative and exciting bands in Ireland.
Rooted in tradition, their unique sound is nonetheless inspired by a myriad of influences from around the world.
Often defined as contemporary Irish music, Kíla fuse the effects of their own melodies and Irish (Gaeilge) lyrics, Irish folk instruments such as whistles, fiddles, Uilleann pipes, bones and bodhrán with djembe, congas, drums, mandolins, brass and acoustic/electric/bass guitars.
Kila have performed at major festivals in over 35 countries, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Edmonton Folk Music Festival in Canada, WOMAD in New Zealand, Spain and Australia, the RWMF in Malaysia, the Ortigueira Festival in Spain, the Sziget Festival in Hungary, Glastonbury and The Electric Picnic.
The band has also collaborated on several soundtracks for animated films, documentaries and television series.
