Magic Malik (Malik Mezzadri) was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and grew up in Guadeloupe, where he learned the flute. He entered the Marseille Conservatory at the age of 17 and graduated with a first prize in flute. He then joined the reggae group Human Spirit, with whom he discovered improvisation on stage and played for 10 years. Working with numerous artists during this period, he met jazz saxophonist Julien Lourau and in 1998 joined his group, the Groove Gang.
In 2000, he founded the Magic Malik Orchestra and collaborated on his second album with the American saxophonist Steve Coleman.
A leading figure in French jazz, Magic Malik is an outstanding composer and musician, who continues to develop his creative, spiritual and aesthetic universe through a wide variety of projects.
