They are rare professions of which we know almost nothing. Yet, they nourish French creativity…
Episode dedicated to the Jean Marc Schilt and Sébastien Maurer, glass workers.
The son and grandson of glass workers at the Saint-Louis crystal factory, Jean-Marc Schilt has moved up patiently through the ranks, and his talent has led him to the top of the art of glassmaking. He is now a Maître d'art (Master of Art) and is passing on his knowledge to Sébastien Maurer.
Together, they work on a wide variety of projects, some crazier and more innovative than others, with designers from all over Europe, developing prototypes that will become masterpieces, exhibited in galleries or in prestigious collections.
They also hold workshops for art students in their large studio in Meisenthal, introducing them to the complexities of glass, its fusion and techniques.
A complicity born of friendship and mutual respect has developed between these two men, which gives added soul to the pieces of glass that spring from their hands.
