Le ballet d’Europe
Greeted by Alphonse de Lamartine as “the transfiguration of nature and the human heart”, Mireille was soon adapted into a three act opera by the composer Charles Gounod… Inspired by Mistral’s poem, with this creation Jean-Charles GIL rediscovers the essence of Greek tragedy and fully embraces the narrative nature of the ballet. Charles Gounod’s opera is reworked and turned into a ballet suite by Raoul Lay, director of the Télémaque Ensemble.
Mireille is a homage to Provence, the birthplace and home of the Ballet d’Europe and the source of Jean-Charles GIL’s inspiration.
