After Ulysses, choreographer Jean-Claude Gallotta continues his association with the mythological figures of the Odyssey with a show entitled Pénélope.

Revisited several times by writers and poets over the 20th and 21st centuries, the character has been liberated from her age-old representation as a woman faithful to the absent man, enslaved to an unfinished tapestry, virtuous to the point of cunning in the face of male lust.

Jean-Claude Gallotta broadens his view of the Homeric epic and approaches it from Penelope's point of view.

Mirroring the “white” ballet Ulysses, Pénélope is a “black” ballet, playing with the rhythms and the nuances that this “colour” contains, seeking to bring into existence the light that can inhabit shadows, the glimmers that cross darkened souls, the secret energies that make the living strive, whatever happens, to persevere in their efforts.
