The 12th Marion apparition site to be approved by the Vatican, the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows in Kibeho, Rwanda, remains an isolated case in the long history of the Virgin Mary, being both a place of piety and genocide.

Today, 30 years after the fratricidal atrocities, Kibeho has once again become a place of pilgrimage. Here, more than anywhere else, it’s possible to experience first-hand the true meaning of forgiveness.

Four witnesses linked to the shrine tell us about the site.  Through their daily lives, their personal stories and their relationship with the Virgin, we get a sense of what makes Kibeho so special.

Through the Virgin Mary, these testimonies of the Kibeho of today, once again a place of faith, peace and remembrance, provide a calmer image of the Rwanda of 2024.
