A mixture of Catalan madness and Rossinian burlesque.

To ensure that the comedy of the situations was fully exploited in this new production, the Opéra National de Bordeaux brought in Spanish street theatre specialist Joan Font and his team, who was further assisted by choreographer Xevi Dorca and costume designer Joan Guillén.

When the production opened in Houston* in October 2011, Houston Chronicle critic Everett Evans called it “inventive and unpredictable”, applauding it for bringing “fresh fun” to Rossini’s best known opera.
