The Marquises Awakening
57' - 2011 - Jour J. Productions
Synopsis
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the Marquise Islands have just emerged from colonial ethnocide, and the population is now striving to re-conquer its roots and build itself a new future.
The 7the Marquises Islands Festival, the Matavaa, which is held every four years, allows the Polynesian people, scattered over hundreds of islands throughout the South Pacific, from New Zealand to Hawaii and including Easter Island, to meet up, make new connections and revive their common culture.
This documentary takes stock of the reconstruction and hopes of this archipelago.
