Oceans cover 3⁄4 of the globe and produce more than half of the oxygen we breathe. But today they are suffocating. Every minute, 15 tonnes of plastics are dumped into our oceans. At this rate, in a few years there will be more rubbish in the seas than fish.
Scientists have been sounding the alarm bells for several years now. With overfishing, mass tourism, pollution, oil spills and global warming, the stakes are incredibly high. If we do not act, our oceans and all their biodiversity will be gone within 50 years.
Faced with this emergency, some people have decided to take concrete action. Mareva Galanter went out to meet these sentinels of the ocean, joining them in their actions and initiatives to raise public awareness about the need to preserve marine flora and fauna.
