Women in relationships with much younger men are often stigmatised. Labelled as “cougars” or “MILFs,” older women who are with partners twenty years—or even ten years—their junior are frequently singled out and criticised by society.
This double standard is all the more striking given that their male partners are generally spared such scrutiny. This is notably the case of the presidential couple Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron.
