MOLADA, THE BIRTH (JASSER HAJ YOUSSEF, SIMONE KERMES) // 78' - 2016

The vocal and instrumental works of Jasser Haj Youssef are unclassifiable. They are impregnated with the improvised style of the Arabic maqams that he learned in Monastir and Sousse (Tunisia) from his father as well as the freest forms of jazz – which he often plays on the viola d'amore . Between scholarly and traditional music, his compositions take us from a contemplative adagio (with texts in Aramaic and Italian) to catchy jazz rhythms.
Jasser was the first to rediscover the baroque...

QUATUOR BÉLA & DUO SÂBIL, JADAYEL // 70' - 2015

On one side of the Orient, the embellished music of the oud (Ahmad al Khatib) and percussion (Youssef Hbeisch). On the other a stirring and iconoclastic string quartet.
The challenge: to pool timbres and practices and search for points of contact between these two cultural areas. Or how to subject Arab heterophony to a Western harmonic.
Recorded during the Détours de Babel festival.

STRACHO TEMELKOVSKI // 62' - 2014

Stracho’s Macedonian roots give him a sense of cultural fusion that makes him a natural world musician. His collaborations with other "inventors" (notably the pianist Jean-Marie Machado) greatly contribute to his work as an improvisational soloist.
