They are thousands of people who own a collection—dedicating time, money, and attention to it. Like any true collector, they are never satisfied. For months, they’ve searched high and low in pursuit of their rare gem.
With them, the quest quickly becomes a treasure hunt, one that calls for a team of experts. It means weaving a network, spotting clues, and constantly investigating.
But will all these efforts be enough to uncover that one precious find that will make their collector’s heart skip a beat?
Laurent, a nurseryman, has been collecting vintage cars for 25 years. It’s his great passion. He owns around fifty vehicles, the oldest being a 1922 Peugeot. His dream? To acquire a model from the early 1900s. That would allow him to finally open the museum he’s always dreamed of. But he's quickly confronted by skyrocketing prices:
“I started this collection at the right time. It’s much harder now because it’s no longer about passion—it’s speculators waiting for prices to rise before reselling. For us collectors, it’s a real shame—we can’t afford them anymore!”
Cyrille, a mechanic and entomologist, set off with a team of scientists to find a mysterious butterfly seen only once in the Pyrenees in the last twenty years. He admits his passion for butterflies takes up a lot of space in the family.
“The search never ends—there’s still so much to discover, I can’t stop. My wife says it’s a bit of an obsession. I always carry vials with me to collect insects. I just can’t help it.”
Cyrille now has around 10,000 insects stored in his garage, which he’s converted into a lab!
Benjamin fell into collecting at age 7—twenty years ago. Today, he owns a collection of around fifty watches, which he’s taken out of the bank vault just for us. Benjamin is obsessed with sporty models and knows exactly which one he's missing:
“It’s an Universal Genève Polerouter, an explorer’s watch made in the 1950s and ’60s.”
But those models are becoming increasingly rare… Not a day goes by without Benjamin thinking about his next purchase:
“It’s like a drug. Some days, it’s tough to see pieces come up for sale and say to yourself: well, I just can’t buy that one!”
Auction houses have become his second home. Will he finally find that elusive timepiece?
As for Anne-Sophie, at just 27, she’s already made a name for herself among the very select circle of whisky experts. She just opened a bar in Toulouse with her friend Roderick, where only part of her personal collection is on display—a thousand bottles. Anne-Sophie has a unique talent for finding affordable whiskies with surprising flavors. She’s promised Roderick to bring back a unique bottle from Scotland, something far from the usual standards:
“For me, it’s essential to go there, because as a collector, that’s how I come across bottles you’d never find in France.”
From pubs to distilleries, this taste adventurer is counting on her network to help her find that truly exceptional whisky…
